Babe - * * 1/2*

Warm-hearted and original talking pig story. Animatronics, live action, and computer animation combine to tell the tale of Babe, a piglet raised on the farm of a sheep herder. He is adopted by the sheepdogs, and takes the job of sheep pig to avoid being eaten by the human family. The blended animations actually make talking animals seem realistic. The animals are given understandable motives and personalities (well, all except for the singing mice…they still remain an enigma). The dark theme (succeed or be eaten), is sufficiently stated, but it doesn’t overshadow the entire film (you do wonder if the film’s creators are strict vegetarians, however). In the end, the most impressive moments in the film seem to be the technical ones, rather than the storyline.
