Peter Jackson directs this live action adaptation of the second volume of J.R.R. Tolkien's fantasy epic, The Lord of the Rings, detailing the various wanderings of the disolved Fellowship. Casting for the Fellowship has almost been completed: Elijah Wood will star as the hobbit Frodo Baggins, and Sean Astin will portray his steadfast friend, Sam. The other hobbits, Pippin and Merry, will be portrayed by Billy Boyd and Dominic Monaghan, respectively. Ian Holm has been cast as the elderly hobbit, Bilbo, Christopher Lee will play the evil wizard Saruman, and Liv Tyler has signed to play Arwen. Other cast members include Ian McKellen (Gandalf), Viggo Mortensen (Aragorn), Jonathan Rhys-Davies (Gimli the dwarf), Orlando Bloom (Legolas the elf), Sean Bean (Boromir), Cate Blanchett (Galadriel), Kevin Conway (Theoden), Brad Dourif (Wormtongue) and Andy Serkis (voice of Gollum). The rest of the cast is likely to be populated with a mix of known and relatively unknown actors. Current rumors for other characters have Uma Thurman as Galadriel, and Ethan Hawke as Faramir. The hobbits and dwarves will be created using computer-manipulated humans. There will be three separate films shot, all over the course of one year.
