Hannibal

Release Date: February 09, 2001

The troubled, long-anticipated sequel to The Silence of the Lambs. Hannibal Lecter (reprised by Anthony Hopkins) is still on the loose, now in Florence, when his only surviving victim (Gary Oldman) seeks him out for revenge. Clarice Starling (Julianne Moore) tries to track down Hannibal first. Ray Liotta will also star as FBI agent Paul Krendler. Ridley Scott will direct from a script by David Mamet. Not to be confused with the other movie entitled Hannibal. Previous rumored title: The Morbidity of the Soul.

maralinn (anonymous)Hopkins not retiring; Hannibal film rights tangled
04/07/99 11:45 PMHopkins was quoted at a post-Oscar party as saying those who think he's retiring have "got the wrong end of the stick." (Okay, okay, Tony! We didn't really believe you anyway!) One of his agents has also been quoted as saying that Hopkins just needed a rest and will be ready to work again soon. Hopkins, Foster and Demme have all been sent manuscripts of the novel, which by all reports is excellent. The biggest problem will be sorting out the movie rights, which up to three film companies have a case for claiming.
